16-Month-Old Virginia Girl Killed In Fatal Crash After Alleged Abduction With Siblings, Stabbings By Father

A Virginia Beach man is suspected of stabbing two victims and abducting their three children before leading police on a wild chase into Maryland that ended in a fatal crash Thursday, according to press releases from police in Maryland and Virginia.

Virginia Beach Police responded to a report of a stabbing Wednesday evening. According to Two female victims, an adult and a juvenile, were found with multiple stab wounds, according to a city press release. The victims were treated at a local hospital and are currently in stable condition, according to the city press release.

Authorities identified the suspect as Dana Plummer, 36. Plummer fled the scene with her two children, 7-year-old Zain and 5-year-old Zaile, and her 16-month-old daughter. According to An Amber Alert was issued as law enforcement agencies across state lines raced to locate the children and arrest Plummer, according to a statement from Maryland State Police.

According to a release from Virginia Beach, an alert citizen recognized Plummer's vehicle through an Amber Alert and called authorities Thursday morning. Virginia State Police attempted to stop Plummer on Interstate 95 in Fairfax County, but Plummer allegedly did not comply, leading to a high-speed pursuit into Maryland. The pursuit ended abruptly on Interstate 495 when Plummer lost control of his vehicle and the SUV overturned, according to the release. All three children were in the vehicle at the time of the crash, according to Maryland State Police. Three vehicles were reportedly involved in the accident, including Plummer's black Honda SUV. Plummer was arrested at the scene and transported to Capital Region Medical Center for treatment, according to a press release from Maryland State Police. Her 16-month-old daughter, identified as Zaria Plummer, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Children's National Hospital in Washington, D.C., where she was later pronounced dead, according to Maryland State Police. Her two siblings were reportedly transported by ground to the same hospital for treatment.

Virginia Beach Police Chief Paul Neudigate expressed his condolences, calling the incident an “unimaginable tragedy,” according to a Virginia Beach release. The incident remains under investigation, and authorities in both Virginia and Maryland are working to determine the circumstances that led to the incident, according to reports.
