16-Year-Old Cheerleader Dies After Suffering Sudden Cardiac Arrest

A high school girl remembered for her drive and liveliness died of sudden cardiac arrest.

16-year-old Carrie Mitchell, who is about to enter her senior year of high school, suffered a fatal cardiac arrest during a cheerleading camp.Mitchell was in camp at this point July 24th.

Mitchell, a popular cheerleader from Morton Ranch High School in Katy, Texas, had a medical emergency while attending Texas A&M University. Mitchell was airlifted to Texas Children’s Hospital.

Mitchell died of cardiac arrest despite the coach’s CPR.

Mitchell’s parents, Michelle Donahue and Scott Donahue, have suggested that the cardiac arrest was a result of their daughter’s QT prolongation. Curry’s parents were in touch with her coach days before she died.

“If it weren’t for [the coach]I would never have had the chance to say goodbye,” said Michelle Donoghue.

Mitchell’s parents continued to encourage other parents at Morton Ranch High School to purchase electrocardiograms, which are used to monitor potential heart problems.

“Other parents know they have a physical exam every year. …The ECG is not part of the physical. …Get the EKG,” said Scott Donahue.

A 16-year-old boy’s obituary read:

“Curry was a young woman with many passions. She was a cheerleader who brought light to all around her. also had a special place in her heart for her French bulldogs, Eugene and Ruby.

“A die-hard Taylor Swift fan, Curry loved driving with open windows and soaking up every moment of life. Curry indulged in flavors of Chick-fil-A, Starbucks, Freebirds, queso from every restaurant, and Texas Roadhouse. (Related: Pyle RFC Rugby Captain Joseph Gardiner Dies Suddenly at 15)

“Curry had a unique connection to time, believing in the magic of the moment and making a wish at 11:11 a.m. , reflected her strong faith and commitment to belief.

“She adorned her car, Face, with a cross hanging from a mirror that symbolized her unwavering devotion. , was excited about her future plans to become a counselor there.She aspired to become a child psychologist, reflecting her caring and caring personality.Curry was also a member of NCL star Katie. I loved volunteering in the community.”
