CASAGRANDE, Arizona — A bail-unsuccessful attempted murder suspect was arrested Sunday morning by Casagrande police on suspicion of possession of drugs and a gun.
Joey Mata, 37, has been pending felony charges in Pinal County Superior Court since 2017. He was arrested in 2016 on suspicion of fleeing the state following the Coolidge shooting. Casa Grande Dispatch.
Mata was again arrested by police during a traffic stop at Casa Grande this week.
During the stop, police reported seizing 1.9 grams of cocaine, 7 pounds of methamphetamine, three loaded handguns, nearly $5,000 in cash, and $119,000 in checks.
Mata and Brennon Pincas Magana, 45, were taken into custody and sent to prison on various charges, police said.
According to public records, Mata did not appear in court for attempted murder on January 18. He is facing another charge in court, including joining his criminal street gang.
Records show that Mata previously spent time at the Arizona Department of Corrections for aggravated assault and vehicle theft.
