2 dead after incident near Prescott, sheriff says

The Arizona Department of Public Safety was asked to take over the investigation.

YAVAPAI COUNTY, Ariz. — A man and a woman were killed in a shooting near Prescott early Tuesday, according to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office.

Preliminary information suggests a husband may have shot and killed his estranged wife as she was fleeing their home, the sheriff’s office said. A YCSO reserve deputy who lives nearby intervened by firing shots.

It is not yet clear how many shots the reserve deputy fired during the altercation.

The sheriff’s office requested the Arizona Department of Public Safety to oversee the investigation. His identity has not been disclosed.
