2025 Power & Influence: 30-21 – Leading political figures in Alabama

Power and Influence: 2025 Top 50 List

The 2025 edition of Power and Influence recognizes the individuals shaping Montgomery’s political landscape. This marks the 13th year of the list, which, I believe, is more relevant than ever.

With the critical 2026 election cycle on the horizon, those featured are gearing up to support their districts and clients as we enter a new political era.

This list highlights prominent government figures who wield their power and influence for the people they serve, based on insights from political insiders and current events.

This week, we’re set to host our annual “Service Power of Service” event in Montgomery, coinciding with the announcement of this year’s list of honorees.

Here’s a glimpse into the 2025 class.

30. Jeremy Walker

Alabama Real Estate Association

Jeremy Walker chairs the Alabama Real Estate Association, a significant player in state politics. With more than 20,000 members, his organization has more than $3 million in funding backing its activities.

While many may overlook real estate agents as key business influencers, any lawmaker who introduces legislation against their interests should expect to see Walker’s team showing up the next day.

His group tracks property values as well as various legislative issues including tax policy and land use. Watching him manage these challenges is quite a spectacle. He’s bound to earn a spot on our list again in 2025.

29. Clay Scofield

Alabama Business Council

Scofield’s notable achievement this year includes his role in keeping the UAW out of Alabama. His presence on this list has remained strong ever since he secured his Senate seat in 2010. Now, though, he’s poised for an even greater influence.

As a key figure behind the BCA’s Campaign 2026, he’s venturing into a politically fertile landscape. You could say he’s quite the political hunter.

Clay’s likelihood of securing pro-business support could change the game as he positions various candidates, all while enjoying the backing of Alabama’s business community.

28. Wesley Britt

Finegedy

Legendary Alabama Crimson Tide player Wesley Britt seems to garner more attention in photos than many elected officials. Wherever he goes, he makes an impression, and he’s hard to miss.

His reputation as a kind and insightful individual has led him to become a trusted source of advice and collaboration. With deep roots throughout Alabama, he has a significant grasp of economic development and public policy.

Britt’s influence will undoubtedly continue as he navigates the current landscape.

27. Dax Swatek

Swatek, Vaughn, Brian

Dax Swatek remains a formidable figure in Alabama politics. His career has been marked by success, and there’s no sign of him slowing down. Since the mid-90s, he has been deeply involved in campaign politics, working with a diverse range of candidates.

His impressive client base reads like a who’s who in Alabama, and he’s built a business that handles all aspects of lobbying. Clients consistently return for his expertise. Betting against Dax, particularly long-term, isn’t wise.

26. Taylor Williams

Powersouth

Taylor Williams has been integral in several major economic development projects across Alabama recently, affecting billions of dollars in new investments.

His success, he says, largely comes from building relationships with people. No matter who he speaks to, he remains genuine and approachable.

Leaders at all levels seek his expertise, which shapes political currents in the state. If you want to understand Alabama’s political trends, keep an eye on Taylor.

25. Jimmy Parnell

Alabama Farmers Federation

Jimmy Parnell has a passion for growth. As president of the Alabama Farmers Federation and CEO of Alfa Insurance, he oversees significant organizations that cater to more than 350,000 families.

He played a vital role in helping many farms secure lower medical compensation costs recently, thanks in part to strategic lobbying efforts.

With about $4 million available for the upcoming election cycle, Parnell is well-positioned to make a substantial impact in legislative and grassroots initiatives.

24. RB Walker

Alabama Power

RB Walker is a constant force in Alabama’s political scene. He excels at effectively championing innovative ideas that drive the state toward strategic growth.

Through various initiatives, including the Powerring Growth Plan, he’s laying down critical foundations for Alabama to shine on both national and global stages. Those who know him appreciate his dedication to the state’s advancement.

23. John Ross

Windom, Galliher & Associates

John Ross is no stranger to the intricate web of relationships in Alabama politics; he’s incredibly personable. His attention to detail has positioned him as a vital resource within the Republican Party.

Many officials commend Ross for their electoral successes, and he continues to work tirelessly for his clients and constituents. We expect him to drive more victories in the future as well.

22. Charlie Taylor

University of Alabama System

Simply put, Charlie Taylor is a powerhouse. He played a crucial role in hosting significant events like President Trump’s visits, solidifying his status in Alabama politics.

His extensive network and relationships have allowed him to influence the state’s legislative process effectively. Ultimately, it’s about the friendships he’s nurtured over time, earning him respect from key figures in business and government.

21. Helena Duncan

Alabama Business Council

Helena Duncan is known for uplifting others while advancing her own impressive track record. She’s a staunch advocate for small businesses and an inspirational leader for young women.

Her influence in Montgomery has grown steadily, and as campaigns for 2026 ramp up, she’s expected to continue challenging expectations in her advocacy for the Alabama business community.
