21-year-old dies in Can-Am accident

SAN LUIS, Arizona (KYMA, KECY) – A 21-year-old man was killed yesterday in an off-highway vehicle accident near Avenue D and County 20th Street.

The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) said it responded to the incident, which occurred around 5:20 p.m. Sunday.

Agents say the Can-Am Maverick X3 with driver and passenger was driving through desert terrain when the driver lost control during a turn.

The vehicle then rolled over and came to a halt, pinning the ejected driver, YCSO said.

The driver, identified as 21-year-old Kenia Pardo Arreola from Yuma, Arizona, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to YCSO.

The passenger was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured, but the driver was not wearing a seatbelt or helmet.

The incident is under investigation, and YCSO says alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the accident.
