New Aircraft Maintenance Hangar Planned at Pryorfield Regional Airport
A new $25 million aircraft maintenance hangar is set to be developed at Pryorfield Regional Airport, showcasing its rise as a center for advanced manufacturing in Limestone County.
Aleut Real Estate, a subsidiary of Aleut Corp., has secured a ground lease at Decatur Airport and constructed a facility for Huntsville’s Strata-G Solutions.
“This investment highlights the ongoing trust in Limestone County’s potential to attract and sustain top-tier industrial operations,” stated Colin Daly, chairman of the Limestone County Commission. “We’re thrilled to collaborate with Strata-G Solutions and Aleut Real Estate to expand our presence here and create new, quality jobs for our community.”
The initiative represents a notable investment in aviation infrastructure, featuring a $25 million facility aimed at providing maintenance, repair, and overhaul services for both Department of Defense and commercial aviation customers. The overall anticipated capital investment for the project amounts to $32.7 million.
“Strata-G Solutions’ decision to invest in this area will further enhance our region’s pivotal role in aviation and defense,” remarked Airport Director Adam Fox. “We are proud to support companies like these that align with our mission to grow the aviation sector and create opportunities within the region.”
This marks Aleut Real Estate’s inaugural development project in Alabama.
“Given the rising demand for aviation and defense support infrastructure in the Huntsville area, Pryorfield serves as a strategic launch point,” mentioned Michael Jenks of Aleut Real Estate. “We’re particularly pleased to collaborate with Limestone County and Strata-G in developing facilities that cater to local requirements and operational aspirations.”
In efforts to bolster community support, both ALEUT and STRATA-G have been awarded tax relief from Limestone County to assist with initial expenses for the project. This incentive will aid in lowering short-term costs and contribute to the long-term sustainability of business operations at the site, as noted by officials.
“This project is a win across the board,” stated Bethany Shockney, president and CEO of the Limestone County Economic Development Association. “Strata-G Solutions and Aleut Real Estate bring tremendous value to the local economy and workforce. Their investment underscores the ongoing emergence of Limestone County as a hub for high-tech and advanced manufacturing.”
“We look forward to supporting their success in the coming years.”
The project aligns with the Pryor Field Authority’s Southwest expansion plan and has the support of key partners, including Limestone County and the state of Alabama. The pre-construction phase is projected to be completed in approximately 18 months.
A groundbreaking ceremony is set for this summer, with the hangar anticipated to be finished by early 2027. Aleut Real Estate is collaborating with Fite Building as the design-build contractor for the project.
