Actress Mikey Madison reportedly took over the opportunity to play a role in the upcoming Star Wars film a few weeks after winning her first Oscar.
She was declined by Sean Levy, of “Deadpool & Wolverine” fame. I said Variety.
Madison, 26, is fresh from her first Oscar nomination, and won her subsequent lead role in “Anola.” The “Star Wars” franchise has been declining sharply in recent years, and Madison seems to have felt that she could do much better given her recent success. Even if she reportedly opts out of the film, she should still keep the issue in sight. The actress was cast for “Anora” without directing this role. And it’s bold to think that she can shake off her chances of being in “Star Wars” at this point in her career.

Certainly, “Anola” was a huge hit and was cleaned up throughout the 2025 awards show season, but that’s a very one-off.
Winning one of the Oscars won’t solidify Madison as a full-fledged career actress.
She’s at a high point and I get it, but this doesn’t necessarily mean people are lined up to take her to the classic franchise.

This could be a power play on her part, as “Star Wars” doesn’t work the same way as before, but I think that “power” part is going too far.
It’s easy to feel high when riding the waves, but it can also crash. (Related: Josh Brolin says he’s quit acting through Oscar’s snub)
Levy has already pounded Ryan Gosling for the film, and according to Variety, Jonathan Tropper is writing the screenplay.
Only time can tell if this is a good call from the Nova, but from where I stand, it’s a roll of dice.
