A passenger bus driver lost control and plunged into a 75-foot gorge in southern Mexico on Wednesday, killing 29 people, the Associated Press reported.
The accident reportedly occurred in the indigenous Mixteca region of Oaxaca state in southern Mexico. Most of the passengers seemed to be manual laborers working in the capital and returning to their villages. according to to the Associated Press.
Oaxaca’s Interior Minister, Jesús Romero, said the 29 people were killed and another 20 were injured, some seriously, according to the Associated Press. He added that one of the dead was a 1-and-a-half-year-old toddler. (Related: Mexican border city mayor lives in army base after gang threats)
“Lack of skill and fatigue seem to have caused the accident,” Romero said, according to the Associated Press.
The bus was reportedly bound for the small town of Yozondua, but deviated at Magdalena Peñasco. according to To El Informador de Oaxaca.
