Four people, including the suspect, was killed Officials said Monday that two police officers were injured in a shooting in northwestern New Mexico.
Three “civilian victims” were killed. Farmington Police said., in addition to the suspect “who was confronted and killed at the scene.” Police Deputy Chief Barrick Crumb said the 18-year-old was in possession of multiple weapons.
Officers who responded to a 911 call that a shot was fired at 10:57 a.m. Monday were met with a “disturbed scene” with the shooter still shooting at people.
“Four officers from the Farmington Police Department are on the case,” Crum said. “They were able to stop him then.”
Crum said there were nine victims besides the suspect, including three who were killed. a A Farmington police officer and a state police officer were also injured, according to Farmington Police.
Both were listed as stable at the San Juan Regional Medical Center. The circumstances of the other wounded were not immediately known.
Crum did not name the suspect. He said earlier Monday that there did not appear to be a second person involved or a further threat to the community.
Authorities urged anyone with information about the shooting to contact police.

Police locked down Farmington City Schools at 11:15 a.m., officials said.The order was lifted by 1:05 p.m.

Judith McIntosh, 77, said she saw a woman lying on the street Monday afternoon while driving home from the supermarket with a friend. I thought she was crazy, but she continued driving. Shortly after, three to five shots rang out as she stood by a church near her home.
McIntosh said he later saw at least one person lying on the lawn on the church grounds.
“The first time I saw an elderly woman on the street, I thought she had been hit by a car,” McIntosh said. “Then we went a little further down by a church and heard gunshots…and saw other people lying on the ground and thought, ‘Oh my God, what? What’s happening? What’s happening?’ People are being killed.”
“I’m still very upset,” she added.
McIntosh said police activity in the area was high at the time and he was unable to enter his home for hours. That’s when she realized a gunshot pierced her bedroom window.

“There were bullet holes in the bedroom window, curtains, living room and recliner.”
McIntosh said the bullet hit the living room wall.
“If I happened to be at home, I could have been shot,” she said.
Investigators were concentrated on Dustin Street between Ute and Apache streets in Farmington, officials said.

Five New Mexico lawmakers (Martin Heinrich, Sen. Ben Ray Lujan, Teresa Leisure Fernandez, Melanie Stansbury, and Rep. Gabe Vazquez) thanked first responders in a joint statement. and vowed to fight gun violence through federal law.
“We are devastated by today’s shooting in Farmington, New Mexico,” they said. “While awaiting further updates, we thank the state and local law enforcement officers who rushed to the scene, and the medical providers caring for the injured. Our hearts go out to the deceased and the injured. I am with my family.”
Monday’s shooting follows two other mass shootings in the past nine days. Two people were killed and five injured in a shooting in Yuma, Arizona, on Saturday night, police said.
The seven victims, all male, were found with gunshot wounds. Two of them, aged 19 and 20, were taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center, where they were pronounced dead. No suspects were detained.
A week before the shooting, a gunman killed eight people at a Dallas-area outlet mall.
Authorities say the 33-year-old shooter, a neo-Nazi sympathizer with an AR-15 weapon, was killed by a police officer who happened to be at Allen’s shopping center.
Victims included a boy, his parents, two school-aged sisters, a security guard working toward a target, and an engineer who had just completed his master’s degree.
