34-year-old Southern California cold murder case solved; suspect arrested in Wisconsin

A 63-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a man in Fontana 34 years ago.

Ángel Martinez was reported missing after he was scheduled to meet with a private individual in Fontana on June 8, 1988, but did not arrive, Fontana City Police said.


On June 20, 1988, Martinez’s body was found in La Paz County, Arizona. A La Paz County Sheriff’s Department investigation led them back to Fontana, and the case was not resolved until this year.

An arrest warrant was issued for 63-year-old Kelvin Keith Emmons, who was charged with murder on March 1 after several forensic examinations by investigators, according to a Facebook post by the City of Fontana Police Department. It was

Fontana Police Department Open Case Detectives and DA investigators traveled to Depere, Wisconsin on March 15 and found Emmons with the assistance of the Depere Police Department. He is currently awaiting extradition to San Bernardino County and will be tried for the murder of Angel Martinez.

Fontana Police Chief Michael Dorsey said, “This arrest is a testament to our commitment to justice for the victims and their families.” I want to thank you.”
