4 Dead, 3 Wounded In Kentucky Home Birthday Shooting

Four people were killed and three were injured in a shooting at a Kentucky home early Saturday morning, according to the Associated Press.

The gunman reportedly opened fire at about 2:50 a.m. at a home in Florence, Kentucky, on guests who were celebrating his 21-year-old son's birthday. according to When police arrived on the scene, they found seven victims, including homeowner Melissa Parrett, 44, Shane Miller, 20, Hayden Rybicki, 20, and Delaney Airey, 19, according to the Associated Press.

The three injured were taken to a Cincinnati hospital in serious condition but are expected to recover, according to the Associated Press.

Neighbor Leah Moore said she heard what she initially mistook for firecrackers around 2am.

“I saw the crime tape, I saw a lot of police, I saw all the kids in the neighbor's yard across the street,” Moore told The Associated Press.

After the shooting, the suspect, Chase Garvey, 21, reportedly fled the scene and police pursued him in a car, before shooting himself and killing himself after his car crashed into a ditch, according to the outlet.

Florence Police Chief Jeff Mallery said Garvey acted alone and posed no threat to the public, according to the outlet, and that Garvey reportedly knew some people at the party but was not invited. (Related story: Gunman kills man, crashes car then escapes on stolen Citi Bike)

“I know what's going on across the country, but this is the first time we've seen a shooting in Florence,” Mallery said, according to the outlet. “It's very emotional. My heart goes out to the victims, their families, the officers who responded to the scene and everyone who was affected by this.”

The investigation into the motive for the shooting is reportedly ongoing.
