40 Days of 100°+ | News

After more than a month of over 100-degree temperatures, Tucson is poised to break the record for the longest consecutive triple-digit day before lunch break…

This afternoon, Tucson will have 40 days in a row of over 100 degrees Celsius. As early as late this morning, 39 days will break the record for consecutive days with temperatures above 100 degrees Celsius. Yesterday, it tied the record, which has been set four times (1987, 2005, 2013 and 2023).

An excessive heat warning will remain in effect until 10 p.m. Wednesday for the lower elevations of Pima, Pinal, Graham and Greenlee counties. Parts of southeastern Arizona will have temperatures in the 106-114 degree range. Drink plenty of water, check your door before locking it, and remember to limit your time outdoors to between 10am and 8pm.

Storms are most likely to form this afternoon south and west of Tucson. Best covered are Santa Cruz and central Pima counties, where storms begin to form in the early afternoon. Strong to severe storms can occur in isolation, with wind damage, blown dust and localized heavy rains remaining the main threats.

The extent of the storms varies from day to day, but this weekend is likely to be the busiest weekend yet for the 2023 monsoon. Stay alert for storms and don’t forget to download a mobile weather app, as storms can affect your outdoor plans in the afternoon and evening.

Temperatures will eventually drop as reports increase, with highs only rising into the low 100s by the weekend and so far only in the high 90s by Monday. That means we could finally break this 100-plus-degree streak by early next week.

  • Today: Few PM storms (30%). High: 111° (110° in 2018)
  • Tonight: Partly stormy, but mostly cloudy (30%). Low: 80°
  • Tomorrow: Few PM storms (30%). High: 110°

After more than a month of temperatures above 100C, Tucson is poised to record its longest streak of 100C this afternoon…
