6 Best Things To Do In Lake Havasu City According To Locals

With its rich but short history, Lake Havasu City was only founded in the mid-20th century, as evidenced by landmarks such as London Bridge and McCorow Boulevard. But what it lacks in all these years, it makes up for in activities that fill an entire weekend getaway. Like most places, Lake Havasu City has its hot spots, but I wanted to focus on spots frequented by locals.




Lake Havasu Tourism hosted me. My request prior to arrival was to send me where the locals go and help me explore the area. Here are six must-do activities in Lake Havasu City, according to locals.

It’s easy to understand why the English Village is the first stop on any Lake Havasu City tour.

If you’ve never been to London, here’s your chance to see what the streets of London look like today. There are telephone booths, pubs serving fish and chips, shops with British royalty, tartans and decorations that celebrate the beauty of British China. It also explains why the British influence can be seen throughout the city.

2. Lake Havasu Park

Ask any local what appeals to them about living on Lake Havasu and they will always mention the park. After driving through some of them, it was easy to see why they play such an important role in people’s daily lives. Water sports are part of the residents’ lives. From the shores of Lake Havasu, you can see kayaks and jet skis launching from the many boat launches that dot the shore. Competitive fishing tournaments are also held, attracting competitors of all ages.

Parks like Cattail Cove State Park, Sarah Park and Lake Havasu State Park abound, with manicured landscapes and creative jungle sets for kids to exercise. It was so nice to see families picnicking and kids playing in the Arizona sun.


To be honest, I was a little envious when I saw a stage being built by the water for the concert later that night. Further investigation revealed that events were often held in this space, allowing visitors and residents to appreciate the climate and the starry sky.

3. Lake Havasu Historical Museum

One would expect to find some history of the area in a building called . Lake Havasu Historical MuseumBut don’t expect this to be a gathering place for the local community.


You need to know the address as it is located in a strip like mall and not near any places frequented by tourists. I met the Executive Director on the doorstep and I could immediately see her energy and enthusiasm for this place. Although not large, the space is used creatively to share the history of the area. Remember. This is a young community and one would wonder if this community would have existed had it not been for the vision of businessman Robert P. McCullough.

Various stones were displayed in a sealed glass case. It was a word from the Managing Director that stopped me. “We have to understand that we are in an area where we cannot go out to pick berries,” she said. “I picked up stones instead.” I grew up in Wisconsin, where berries are abundant, so it never occurred to me that I would have to find other ways to keep other kids busy.


It turns out that the regular meeting held at the museum is the Geological Society. By inviting young people to be part of this organization, they are helping them to have a clearer understanding of their surroundings. In addition, there are regular events on Saturdays where young people can learn about the history of the area and how to honor it.

4. McColow Boulevard

A short drive north of London Bridge, the street is lined with shops and restaurants. I immediately wished I had more time to explore.

This area downtown district. The wide boulevard is lined with boutiques on both sides. Unlike English villages, these small, privately owned shops do not carry tourist souvenirs. Instead, gourmet olive oils, spices, vintage clothing and art grace the showcase. Artists have found a way to bring empty walls to life with vibrant and colorful designs, making walking through the streets a fun adventure. Indeed, I was fascinated by the assortment of an antique store. Because memories of my childhood popped into my head.

5. Havasu Landing Resort & Casino

Even if you’re not a casino fan, you won’t regret taking the ferry. Havasu Landing Resort & Casino. It would have been easy to head to our hotel room after a long day of learning and exploring, but the Lake Havasu Visitor Authority insisted on taking the ferry at sunset. I really enjoyed listening to them.

$4 round trip for 17 minutes on open deck Tecopa ferry. There were a few locals around us. Some headed to the casino for an evening of gambling and dinner. Others love to take their families on quiet, peaceful voyages, often watching marine life frolic around their boats as a result.


Tucucan Restaurant

We were due to check out of the casino quickly and leave on the next ferry in 30 minutes. But we saw the next sign. Tucucan Restaurant And then I noticed there was buttermilk fried chicken on the menu. We couldn’t pass it up and decided to stay for dinner. It was just like what my grandmother used to make and it was easily enough for two of her hungry people.

6. London Bridge Resort

To my surprise, when I entered the lobby, London Bridge Resort Havasu, had a large golden carriage that was a replica of the one used by the British royal family. I smiled as I thought this. Wow, Lake Havasu is serious about its ties to England.


If you’re looking for a place with all the amenities you need, London Bridge Resort Havasu is the perfect place for your family. A suite with a kitchen makes it easy to cook a full-fledged meal, but with so many restaurants nearby, it’s tempting to step outside.

For night owls, Martini Bay is an elegant lounge. In my sense, I think it’s a place where conversation is easy to proceed. But I have to say the balcony was where I spent quite a bit of time, as the views of the water and the famous London Bridge were breathtaking.

Lake Havasu Best Restaurants

Papa Leone’s pizza

We were hungry for Italian food and were guided to Papa Leone’s pizzaare within walking distance from our hotel. We perused the menu, with a patio overlooking the lake and a perch perfect for people watching people participating in water sports. Once our order was placed, it turned out to be the perfect place to chill out with a glass of wine under the canopy shelter. I hadn’t eaten spaghetti and meatballs in years. Heartfelt compliments to the chef as it was fantastic.

Campbell Cove One Stop & Deli

Imagine my surprise when I was recommended a gas station deli twice.of Campbell Cove One Stop & Deli Located in an industrial area by the water. It wasn’t the most accessible place to find, but it was definitely worth the effort.


I parked the car and headed back through a passage that seemed convenient. The cashier took my order, a turkey and cranberry sandwich on sourdough bread. I was then given a number and encouraged to shop in my side aisle. I wandered the aisles, chose kettle chips and unsweetened iced tea, sat at a high table and waited for my number to be called. verdict? A perfect sandwich for a sunny day.

Locals are proud that everything is homemade, including the waffle cones from their favorite ice cream shop. I can’t tell you how many times I laughed and was told to definitely go. scoop. Spot the artistic ice cream cone and the bench in front of the store and you can’t miss it. If you want to relive your childhood, this is the place for you. The pecan ice cream cone was awesome.


Pro Tip: Lake Havasu City Visitor Center

Just steps away from the English Village, the Lake Havasu City Visitor Center has a well-equipped center with exhibits and information to learn more and answer many of your questions.

Unfortunately, one day and night wasn’t enough to explore Lake Havasu City. Now I’ve been there twice and will definitely be back. If you’re traveling to Las Vegas, Parker Dam, the Grand Canyon, or even Phoenix, we recommend planning a route through this modern, well-planned city. Once there, I encourage you to strike up a conversation with the locals and ask them about their favorite places. With activities all year round, you’ll be able to share even more special places in this desert community.
