Seven years ago on America’s Got Talent Julia Scotti told the world that she was a transgender woman. She was answering Howie her Mandel. Howie Mandel asked why did you start so late in her life after her performance in her killer stand?
Many doors opened for Scotty that night, and she was able to reunite with Mandel last week at New Jersey 101.5. Seeing Julia talking to Howie on the phone in the studio was very touching.
“I love Julia. She’s one of the funniest people in the world,” Mandel said when I raised her. Then when she found out she was in the studio, magic happened.
I was looking forward to this very much. It seems like we haven’t really spoken since the show. But thank you guys for everything you have done for my career. You have rejuvenated my career,” Scotty said.
“You were one of the highlights for me,” Mandel said. “I’ve been doing AGT for 13 years now, and Julia, first of all, I love comedy and stand-up comedy. I don’t think so, you’re definitely one of stand-up comedy’s most famous standouts.”
“Incredibly funny, incredibly sophisticated, you are a star. And your openness about your life and journey has leveled you. People have to be open and respectful to everyone and take the stigma out of their lives.”
“Your show,” says Scotty.
“Well, listen,” said Mandel. “We can’t thank you enough for coming and what you’ve done for us and what you’ve done for the world. Just being on your show makes me feel better. A lot of people say they are positively impacted.At AGT I get to learn and meet you more than you.”
Howie ended the conversation by telling Julia, “We have to work together. You’re really great. Let’s work it out.”
