A California girl is in “extremely serious condition” after nearly drowning in a swimming area near London Bridge Beach late Saturday afternoon.
Around 2 p.m., an 8-year-old woman from California disappeared into the water while she was at a swimming pool with relatives, the sergeant said. Kyler Cox, Supervisor of the Mojave County Sheriff’s Office Boat Safety and Diving Rescue Team Division.
Cox said family members were swimming near the victim when he disappeared into the water. Shortly after her disappearance, relatives of the victim began a search with one of her family members pulling the child to shore.
Cox said the girl was at the bottom of the lake, about 4.5 feet deep. CPR was being administered to the victim when Boat Safety and the Dive Rescue Team arrived at the scene.
“We were told it would take three to five minutes from when she disappeared into the water until she was found,” Cox said of her family’s rescue of the victim.
Cox said the victim was treated by River Medical paramedics along with Sheriff’s Department and Lake Havasu City Fire Department personnel.
The child was then taken to Havasu Regional Medical Center in critical condition and will be airlifted to a hospital in Las Vegas, Cox added.
The Mojave County Sheriff’s Department Boat Safety Division continues to investigate Saturday’s drowning incident.
