An Indiana grandfather died from injuries sustained in a dog attack in his backyard on the morning of January 30, WTHR reports.
According to the newspaper, 85-year-old William Mundine was attacked and killed by two American Bully dogs while rescuing his wife.
Despite receiving immediate medical attention, Mundine's injuries proved fatal, WTHR report. The paper noted that similar encounters with aggressive dogs have been witnessed in the area where the incident occurred, which Indianapolis Animal Services said indicates this was not an isolated incident. According to WTHR, this incident marks at least the third attack in the neighborhood within the same week.

The victim's family is grieving and his granddaughter has described the ordeal in which multiple dogs attacked Mundine for no reason, leaving him with serious injuries. “Her grandfather came out to chase them away and two pit bulls, I think, attacked her grandfather,” Holly Watkins, the victim's granddaughter, said, according to WTHR. The deceased's widow, Betty Mundine, expressed her sadness in memory of her husband. “Thank God for him. He lived to be 85 years old. He was a blessing. He will be sorely missed,” Betty said, according to WTHR. “He says he saved my life. He was a hero.”
According to WTHR, local authorities are stepping up their efforts in response to this incident and growing concerns about animal control in the area.
