American singer-songwriter Matthew Sweet suffered a debilitating stroke on October 12 while on tour in Toronto.
According to reports, Sweet’s manager Russell Carter said Wednesday that Sweet was taken to Toronto Western Hospital, “where he received excellent treatment and was removed from immediate danger.” CTV News. Sweet rose to fame in the ’90s with “Girlfriend” and “Altered Beast.” His last album “Catspaw” was released in 2021. His hit singles “Time Capsule” and “Sick of Myself” quickly became fan favorites.
According to Carter, his touring was his main source of income, but that all stopped when he suffered a stroke. The Lions have set up a GoFundMe page asking the public to help.

“Our longtime inspiration and dear friend Matthew Sweet suffered a debilitating stroke last week in Toronto early in his national tour,” the statement reads.
“He unexpectedly and tragically went off course and was forced to take a long and uncertain road to recovery.”
Lyons continued: “We are asking his family, friends and fans for financial assistance during this difficult time. Without insurance or tour income, Matthew faces a significant financial burden.”

“The treatment of Toronto doctors and hospitals helped save Matthew’s life, but health care is not free for Americans in Canada,” Lyons wrote.
“He will now be flown back to the United States on an air ambulance with medical staff and taken to a specialized rehabilitation center where he will receive 24-hour care and treatment for six weeks,” Lyons said. .
The statement added that he would require months of expensive treatment and rehabilitation.
“Needless to say, the cost of all this treatment will be significant. We expect the total to be close to $250,000. Your thoughts, love and support will mean so much to him. But please donate financially if you can. Matthew will be forever grateful to you,” Lyons wrote on the GoFundMe page.

Carter said Sweet was taken to a rehabilitation center in Omaha, Nebraska, where she will receive critical treatment, according to CTV News.
