Pollster Claims Trump’s Approval Rating Is Better Than Reported
Matt Towery, a pollster, shared his views on Fox News, suggesting that President Donald Trump’s actual approval rating is significantly higher than what mainstream media outlets indicate.
According to a Gallup poll, Trump’s approval dropped to 37% recently, with only 29% support from independents. During his segment on “Ingraham’s Angle,” Towery highlighted discrepancies between public perception and Trump’s true approval ratings, arguing that many polls report around 30% but he feels the real numbers are much more favorable for the president.
“That’s quite low. Media coverage has a huge influence here. There are polls that are quite accurate, but many steer clear of those that show Trump more favorably,” Towery explained to host Laura Ingraham.
He also pointed out that polling accuracy can be skewed by bias, which tends to favor lower approval ratings for Trump while overlooking polls that show better numbers. He stated, “Gallup used to be reliable for presidential approval, but that’s not the case anymore. Saying he has a 38% approval is absurd. Trust me, Donald Trump has over 50% approval; I’m confident about that.”
In June, Trump’s approval sat at 47.5%, which was better than former Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama during their second terms. Bush had an approval rating of 45.9% and Obama 47.1% at comparable points in their presidencies, based on real-clear politics data.
This data aligns with findings from a recent Harvard University Center for American Political Studies/Harris poll. Furthermore, Trump’s approval rating appeared to rise alongside a noticeable boost in consumer confidence, which saw a jump to 98.0, reflecting an increase driven by better business conditions and employment forecasts, particularly after the US-China trade agreement in May.
