Protesters Rally for Colbert in NYC
On Sunday, a small group of supporters gathered in New York City for a “We Wours With Colbert” rally, aimed at showing solidarity with the recently canceled “The Late Show.” The event unfolded outside the CBS Broadcasting Center in Manhattan.
According to reports, roughly 20 people showed up, with many being assigned by the NYPD to keep the peace. Most participants departed shortly after the rally commenced.
The event’s organizer, who goes by the name “Slim,” shared his perspective, saying, “Our country wasn’t perfect and never was.” He expressed concern over what he described as “Mangomssolini” attempting to take away their freedoms.
Other attendees voiced their determination to stand against oligarchs and billionaires. They proclaimed, “These are the sons of freedom. We want to resist fascist oligarchs and a billionaire who has boots on the necks of almost every American citizen, trying to regain patriotic symbolism from the right wing.”
A Twitter post from the rally stated that the demonstration was hosted by a coalition of groups and occurred from 3 PM to 6 PM.
Another protester added, “We are allowed to oppose it, and if people like Stephen are not allowed to voice their opinions, then the president himself has contradicted the First Amendment.” They continued to express their discontent regarding political interference with the free press.
Signs at the rally included messages such as, “Sorry, but ignoring it is what Hitler did,” and “He wants to kill our laughter.”
CBS had announced that Colbert’s show would conclude on July 17th, citing financial decisions related to a merger between Skydance and Paramount, the parent companies of CBS. There have been speculations about increased scrutiny from Skydance executives on shows like Colbert’s.
