Housing Authority announces 98% occupancy and looks for partners in veteran programs

This article summarizes key points from a recent meeting held by the Nogales Housing Authority on July 2, 2025, where they discussed ongoing efforts to meet housing needs in the community, particularly for veterans.

During the session, the director shared that public housing occupancy has reached an impressive 98%. This increase followed three new moves, consisting of one new arrival and two transfers, while five units are still offline. The demand for one-bedroom units is particularly high, with a waiting list of 142 applicants. This situation led to conversations about potentially closing the waiting list for larger units.

Maintenance operations were also discussed. Out of 150 work orders, 142 have been completed, despite facing a shortage of three maintenance staff. To help address this, the authority plans to post these job openings right away to maintain service levels.

The meeting also touched on housing selection vouchers. The program has expanded to include 164 vouchers currently under lease, while the waiting list stands at 262. Authorities noted seven new moves this month, reflecting ongoing demand for assistance.

Overall, the meeting showcased the Nogales Housing Authority’s proactive stance on housing issues. Their clear emphasis on supporting veterans and achieving high occupancy rates appears crucial as they look for community partnerships and address staffing challenges, which are vital for local housing stability.
