Disney Makes Major Payout to Weinstein Victim Julia Ormond

Julia Ormond Settles with Disney

Recent court documents reveal that actress Julia Ormond received $5.75 million from Disney, which she accused of failing to protect her from Harvey Weinstein’s sexual assault in 1995.

At that time, Weinstein was running Miramax, a company owned by Disney. Ormond initiated legal action against Disney in 2023, claiming negligence. She contended that despite the known incidents involving Weinstein, the company did not take appropriate measures to ensure her safety.

The impact of this settlement on potential further lawsuits against Disney remains uncertain.

In her 2023 lawsuit filed in New York, Ormond alleged that after dinner, Weinstein invited her to give him a massage, leading to a disturbing encounter where he essentially assaulted her. This revelation ties into the larger narrative surrounding the #MeToo movement, as numerous women have step forward to share their experiences of harassment and assault linked to Weinstein.

Weinstein is currently serving a 23-year sentence in New York and another 16 years in Los Angeles for various sexual offenses. Recent years have also seen him face a range of health issues.

As of now, Ormond has not made any public statements regarding her settlement with Disney.
