Governor Ivey Addresses Students on Return to School
This week, as students in Alabama headed back to school, Governor Kay Ivey shared a video message emphasizing the connection between education and the nation’s future.
“Alabama students, that’s Governor Kay Ivey,” she declared in her back-to-school address, expressing her anticipation for the new school year.
With her signature warmth, Ivey conveyed an optimistic outlook, highlighting the significance of this moment. “The first day of school is exciting,” she stated. “It’s a fresh start, a chance to set new goals and dream big.”
Yet, her message went beyond just getting new supplies. As a former teacher, Ivey framed education as essential for the state’s future. She noted, “What happens in the classroom can shape our path ahead.”
“As we prepare to celebrate our country’s 250th birthday, I believe that the next 250 years will hinge on what’s happening in Alabama’s classrooms,” Ivey said, reinforcing her belief in education’s pivotal role.
This argument, while noble, was underscored by a familiar saying from her. She encouraged students to appreciate the significance of their daily efforts. “Every math problem, every book, every science experiment — it all contributes to something larger,” she explained. “It’s getting you ready to guide and shape our future.”
Her address also touched on character development, urging students to embrace opportunities in various ways.
“Be bold enough to raise your hand. Be kind enough to help others. Have the courage to fail and try again,” Ivey advised. “One day, someone might say, ‘That student changed Alabama.’ And if that student is you, I wouldn’t be surprised at all.”
The speech was a blend of encouragement and a call to action, aligning with Ivey’s broader commitment to education reform in Alabama.
As students settled into classrooms from Huntsville to Mobile, her message rang clear: the future is already in their midst.
