Major commercial vehicle enforcement blitz taking place next week in Arizona



of Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) will implement commercial vehicle enforcement details on major interstates starting Monday.

From Monday, February 20, 2023 through Friday, February 24, 2023, the Arizona DPS Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Task Force (CVETF) will conduct “Operation Southern Shield.”

Troopers will focus on Interstate 10 from Phoenix to the New Mexico border and Interstate 19 from Tucson to the border.

During Operation Southern Shield, officers will target dangerous driving violations, conduct commercial vehicle inspections, and educate drivers on safe and compliant operations to reduce collisions involving commercial vehicles.

Arizona DPS says non-commercial vehicle drivers who drive unsafely around trucks are also targeted in blitzkrieg.

Operation Southern Shield is supported by the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Administration, Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, Marana Police Department, Oro Valley Police Department, and Tucson Police Department.
