Ukraine Confirms Russian Advances in Key Regions
On Wednesday, Ukraine acknowledged that Russian forces have made significant inroads into important areas of the country, coinciding with ongoing peace mediation efforts by President Donald Trump.
Despite Russia’s repeated assertions that it has not taken control, the country has intensified its attacks on the Dnipropetrovsk region. Reports indicate that these assaults are becoming more alarming, especially given the backdrop of ongoing peace discussions involving Ukraine and the United States. Trump has voiced dissatisfaction with Russian President Putin’s seemingly contradictory approach to achieving peace in Ukraine.
“This is the first attack on such a large scale in the Dnipropetrovsk region,” Trehubov reported to the BBC, underscoring the gravity of the situation.
Trebov also noted that, while Russia has claimed progress over the summer, Ukraine has downplayed the impacts. It’s worth mentioning that Dnipropetrovsk was once a key industrial area before the onset of the conflict, and it’s also the home region of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Although Moscow has not included Dnipropetrovsk in its peace proposals, it is publicly pushing for control over the Russian-speaking Donbas region in eastern Ukraine. Trump expressed his frustration with Putin on Monday as Russian offensives continue, even while peace talks are in progress.
Additionally, there are indications that the US might be encouraging Russia to reach a settlement, potentially involving investments in Russia’s energy projects to sweeten the deal.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has yet to respond to inquiries related to these developments.
