PCSO: Missing 12-year-old found safe

Pinal County, Arizona — A missing 12-year-old boy in Pinal County was found safe and sound as of Saturday morning, the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office said. The recently arrested boy’s father was a prison officer.

12-year-old Kelly “KJ” Conklin has been missing since December 20 after reportedly running away from home with another member of her family. PCSO said one of his children was later found unharmed.

But now, the missing boy’s parents, Kelly and Melissa Conklin, have been arrested by the PCSO after detectives interviewed the other children living in the house.

Older Kelly Conklin was an employee of the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation, and Reentry (ADCRR), but resigned after his arrest, a representative for the agency said.

The PCSO said the parents’ arrests were not directly related to the 12-year-old’s disappearance.

The parents were in custody on suspicion of involvement in child abuse, according to the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office.

According to PCSO, KJ Conklin was previously seen at a Walmart in Queen Creek around 8pm on December 20th. He wore a black “GAP” hoodie with gray letters and multi-colored triangle sweatshirts.

On Saturday, the PCSO announced that KJ was found safe. Authorities did not provide further details about his condition.
