Tlaib’s Remarks at Pro-Hamas Conference Spark Controversy
Michigan Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib stirred up significant attention by unleashing strong language during a pro-Hamas conference, calling supporters of Israel derogatory names and backing claims of genocide made at the event.
Since the attack by Hamas on October 7, 2023, which resulted in over 1,200 deaths, Tlaib has been a vocal critic of President Joe Biden’s stance on Israeli military actions. She urged her fellow Democrats to back a slate of “uncommitted” delegates, criticizing Biden for not securing a permanent ceasefire.
Her latest comments were made at the “Palestine People’s Assembly” and have drawn substantial scrutiny. Tlaib expressed that, “They killed us, imprisoned us, and violently erased us from our lands. We thought we would disappear. But they don’t get it. Even after 70 years, we’re not going anywhere. We’re just getting started.”
She further added, “I look at them, all the genocide enablers in this room. We are not going anywhere. We’re just growing, growing, growing.”
In November 2023, the House of Representatives condemned Tlaib for previously using the phrase “from river to sea,” which has been interpreted by some as a call for the eradication of Israel. Earlier in May, she had referred to the establishment of Israel as a “catastrophe” and has frequently mentioned apartheid in discussions regarding Israel.
Following a deadly terrorist incident in southern Israel, Tlaib and members of “The Squad” publicly called for a ceasefire. They joined a majority in opposing a resolution that passed with a vote of 412-10 in late October.
