Police Officer Stabbed in Face, Suspect Shot Dead Following Police Pursuit

Incident Involving NYPD Officer and Knife-Wielding Suspect

Early Sunday morning, a man armed with a knife attacked an NYPD officer in Brooklyn, leading to a chase that ended in the suspect being shot and killed.

The incident began around 5:28 AM when the suspect entered the 73rd precinct through an employee entrance, brandishing a 14-inch butcher knife. Officers directed him to exit through the front, but he allegedly attempted to slash one officer’s throat, injuring her face in the process, as reported by law enforcement sources.

Despite sustaining injuries, the officer, whose parents both served as NYPD detectives, defended herself by blocking the knife with her arm, which resulted in cuts to her head and left ear. She then joined her colleagues in pursuing the attacker.

The suspect, believed to be in his 40s, fled about two blocks to a nearby housing project on Saratoga Street. Officers commanded him to drop the knife, but he reportedly charged at them instead, prompting the police to respond with gunfire, ending the threat.

PBA President Patrick Hendry acknowledged the officer’s bravery during the attack. He noted, “She could have been killed here. This knife was there for her, but she could block. She used her incredible skills… She was focused on saving lives.” Hendry mentioned that one of the officer’s parents continues to work as a detective.

The officer was treated at a local hospital, where her parents came to see her. Hendry further highlighted her determination, stating, “She knew her goal was to get this individual off the street… She didn’t care that she was injured at that point. She wanted to stop the threat.”

NYPD Chief Patrol Philip Rivera confirmed the details during a press conference on Sunday.
