Six People Killed After Gunmen Attack Bus Stop in Jerusalem, Authorities Report

At least six people were killed and several more injured following shootings by two Palestinian gunmen at a bus stop in North Jerusalem on Monday, according to officials and various reports.

Israel’s National Emergency Medical Services (EMS) confirmed that five individuals died at the scene, with seven others in serious condition.

The Jerusalem Post reported that the assailant targeted civilians as they arrived in a temporary parking area, resulting in the deaths of a 60-year-old woman, three rabbis, and a Spanish immigrant.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saa stated six fatalities occurred during his visit to Hungary. Reports indicate that both gunmen were killed, as referenced by CBS News.

Witnesses described the chaotic scene, noting that the bus was full when the attacker started firing as soon as it reached the stop.

According to updates from Magen David Adom, there were five confirmed deaths (four at the scene and one later), along with several injuries involving gunshot wounds and injuries from shattered glass.

Sources mentioned that the assailants were armed with makeshift “Carlo” submachine guns, as suggested by images from the attack site.

A paramedic who arrived on the scene described it as “very tough,” stating that victims were lying on the road and sidewalk. The suspects were identified as Palestinians from the West Bank, with ongoing investigations by Israeli security officials into their identities.

“This morning there was a horrific terrorist attack in our capital, Jerusalem,” remarked the Israeli Foreign Minister.

A Palestinian authority statement asserted a stance against violence and harm to both Palestinians and Israeli civilians, emphasizing rejection of all forms of violence.

Interestingly, while Hamas, which previously conducted attacks on Israelis, did not claim responsibility for this incident, it referred to the shootings as a “natural response” to ongoing occupation, encouraging Palestinians to escalate confrontations.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed condolences to the families of those who died and were injured, stating that such attacks only strengthen their resolve to meet their missions.

Notably, Netanyahu had a scheduled court appearance on the day of the attack but decided to postpone it.
