Senator Hawley Advocates for Accountability in Funding Violence
On Fox News’ Jesse Watters Primetime, Republican Senator Josh Hawley from Missouri expressed his belief that individuals or groups financing violence should face legal consequences. The conversation followed remarks made by FBI Director Kash Patel during a Senate Judiciary Committee session, where he discussed tracing financial sources linked to crimes like terrorism and ideologically driven attacks.
Hawley responded to a question about whether lawmakers could hold those funding violent protests accountable. He noted, “You certainly can’t deliberately fund crime. Just looking at these events, the planned nature of many riots indicates that the funders are aware of their actions.” He added that the individuals behind these funds have been secretive, realizing the implications of their financial backing.
“If you’re funding riots that harm people, attack police, or result in property damage, then yes, that’s a crime. You should be held liable and should answer for it in court,” he continued. Hawley highlighted the significance of Patel’s investigation into funding sources for these events.
This comes amid ongoing protests and riots that erupted as the Trump administration intensified its stance on illegal immigration. During these events, federal buildings were vandalized, vehicles were set ablaze, and clashes with police were reported.
Director Patel’s initiative followed findings that linked socialist groups, associated with the Party for Socialism and Liberation and billionaire Neville Roy Singham, to these riots. A report by the New York Post indicated that financial documents showed that a network of progressive activists involved in the protests had obtained both state and federal funding.
