Cory Mills Reaches Agreement With Democrats To Protect Ilhan Omar

Republican Fallout Over Ilhan Omar Resolution

Florida Republican Rep. Cory Mills was one of four Republicans who opposed a resolution condemning Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar from Minnesota. It seems he might have aimed to sidestep similar criticism aimed at Omar.

Mills was the fourth Republican vote against the resolution, which was put forth by Rep. Nancy Mace from South Carolina, but it ultimately did not pass. Axios reports that this vote happened right after Mills was threatened with a retaliatory resolution by Democrats.

Democrats, including the Speaker of the Texas Progressive Caucus, later confirmed plans to withdraw the resolution against Mills, according to another Axios report.

Other Republican representatives, like Mike Flood from Nebraska, Jeff Heard from Colorado, and Tom McClintock from California, also sided with the Democrats in opposition to Mace’s resolution, which was aimed at condemning Omar for her comments about Charlie Kirk’s assassination.

McClintock commented on social media regarding Omar’s remarks, labeling them as “demeaning and empty,” but he defended her right to express those views. He emphasized that such speech, no matter how distasteful, is protected under the First Amendment.

All Democrats supported the decision to table the resolution meant to formally discipline Omar. The day after Kirk’s assassination, Omar made comments that sparked backlash, saying, “It doesn’t have any more effect…and to completely pretend that his words and actions are not recorded and existed.” She dismissed the notion that Kirk participated in civil political discourse.

She argued, “There are a lot of people talking. [Kirk] These people are full of sh*t and it’s important to call them out while they feel anger and sadness.” Mace noted that Omar had reposted a video labeling Kirk as a “denunciable person.”

Former President Donald Trump was asked whether he would support Omar’s removal from her committee assignments. He confirmed he would, stating, “I think she’s a dishonorable…losers, how people vote, it’s amazing.” Trump expressed disbelief that she retains support in her district, calling her a “disgusting person.”

The Daily Caller reached out to Mills and Casar’s offices for comments but didn’t receive a response in time for publication.
