Jasmine Crockett Upset That Only Two White Members Opposed Kirk Resolution

Texas Rep. Crockett Criticizes Resolution Honoring Charlie Kirk

On Sunday, Democrat Representative Jasmine Crockett from Texas expressed her frustration regarding a resolution that honored Charlie Kirk, claiming that only two white lawmakers contributed to her distress. During an appearance on CNN’s “Union Status,” she stated that Republicans unanimously supported the resolution, while 58 Democrats, including herself and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, voted against it.

Crockett accused Kirk of targeting people of color with his rhetoric. She said, “It truly hurt my heart to see the no vote; it was just two white people.” She further emphasized that, in many situations, only lawmakers of color opposed the measure.

“The rhetoric that Charlie Kirk has continuously put out has been damaging, especially towards people of color,” Crockett continued. She expressed disappointment that some colleagues failed to recognize how harmful his words could be.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and his team supported the resolution, which had 38 House Democrats voting for it, while 22 did not participate in the vote.

The resolution noted: “This act of politically motivated violence contradicts the principles of a Free Republic; discussions of differing opinions should be conducted respectfully.” The Senate also passed a similar resolution, establishing Kirk’s “national anniversary” for October 14th, coinciding with his birthday.

Democratic leaders showed their support for the bill in a Closed Door Conference but did not direct members on how to vote, as reported by Axios.

Ocasio-Cortez criticized Kirk during her speech on the House floor, asserting, “We should be very clear about who Charlie Kirk is; he believes civil rights laws allowing Black Americans to vote are wrong.” She referenced violent incidents related to Kirk and described his beliefs as ignorant and divisive, contrasting sharply with the resolution’s call for unity.

Some liberal groups and left-leaning media have made inaccurate claims about Kirk, misquoting him in various instances.

Kirk had addressed a large crowd at Utah Valley University earlier this month, while authorities accused a suspect, Tyler Robinson, in relation to a disturbing incident involving Kirk’s family.
