Disney Lifts Suspension on Jimmy Kimmel
On Monday, Ben Ferguson, a conservative podcaster, shared his thoughts during Fox Business’s “The Bottom Line.” He mentioned that Disney is set to reinstate “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on Tuesday after Kimmel’s suspension last week sparked discussions about free speech among Democrats. Fox’s Dargen McDowell inquired about the liberals’ responses to Ferguson’s commentary.
Ferguson expressed his views, noting, “We’ve now cancelled Culture 2.0. We only support freedom of speech if it aligns with our ideals. I think this situation is quite telling, and honestly, Kimmel’s past content really shines a light on the biases against conservatives and Christians. His old clips have circulated widely on social media, highlighting this issue.”
ABC, part of Disney, announced that Kimmel would be suspended indefinitely following a controversial monologue delivered on September 15th. Kimmel criticized certain Republicans for seemingly misrepresenting a violent incident related to Kirk.
Democratic figures, including California Rep. Eric Swalwell and former President Barack Obama, have criticized the Republican response, suggesting the ongoing “cancelling culture” is reaching troubling heights.
Ferguson predicted that Kimmel’s show may not fare well in the long run, asserting that conservatives would witness how the market reacts. “If you’re a viewer of Jimmy Kimmel, it seems you might actually represent the majority of Americans he often derides. I believe ABC is courting disaster with this one, and we’ll see how it unfolds as the free market responds,” he remarked. “They can resist this, but ultimately, it could lead to Kimmel’s downfall.”
He further stated, “For every Democrat you hear expressing outrage, remember it’s part of the free speech conversation. I’m grateful to engage in these discussions. It should be interesting, especially when we talk about calls for cancellation—I’ll be reminding everyone of those sentiments.”
After Kimmel’s earlier comments, he seemed to escalate tensions further, facing backlash for implicating certain groups in the aftermath of violence. Some reports suggested Kimmel intended to clarify his statements, arguing they had been misrepresented by opponents.
