Former FBI director James Comey reacted on Thursday following his indictment by the Justice Department on two of the three charges against him.
The charges include making a false statement to Congress and obstructing an investigation. In response, Comey shared a video on Instagram, framing these allegations as an act of political revenge.
“My family and I have been aware for years that there’s a price to pay for opposing Donald Trump, but we wouldn’t want it any other way. We can’t back down, and neither should you,” he stated.
Comey emphasized that he, nor his supporters, should give in to intimidation.
“I’m not scared. I hope you’re not either. I urge you to stay engaged, pay attention, and vote for the sake of your cherished country.”
A CIA memo made public in July suggests that both Comey and former CIA director John Brennan might have provided false testimony regarding their involvement with the Steele documents during the 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA). This memo, stemming from a review in June, directly contradicts their sworn statements.
Brennan acknowledged that he was working to incorporate Steele’s documents into the ICA. The files were linked to Fusion GPS, a research firm involved with the Hillary Clinton campaign through the law firm Perkins Coie.
