News Host Directly Asks John Fetterman If He Would Think About Changing Parties

Fetterman on Party Loyalty and Political Rhetoric

During a recent appearance on Fox News, host Maria Bartiromo posed a question to Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman about the possibility of him switching political parties.

As divisions grow within the Democratic Party regarding its rhetoric against Republicans, concerns are surfacing about the potential for escalating political violence. Fetterman, while discussing his stance on “Sunday Morning Futures,” stated that he has no plans to leave the Democratic Party. However, he expressed clear disapproval of joining a group that characterizes its opponents with terms like “Nazis” or “Fascists.”

“I won’t switch, but I intend to be a Democrat who also serves as an independent voice,” he remarked. He emphasized the importance of principled leadership that refrains from name-calling and stated that his views, regardless of the side they come from, are based on what he believes to be true.

Fetterman also reiterated his commitment to seeking out the truth, whether it aligns with Republican or Democratic perspectives. “Right now, the truth is being conveyed regarding Israel and the ongoing situation. Shutting down the government is fundamentally wrong. If that makes me an outlier, then so be it,” he added.

Echoing Fetterman’s sentiments, Florida Democrat Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick asserted that the party must rein in members who use hateful language, labeling some recent remarks as “completely crazy” and “full of hate.” Democratic Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois countered comparisons between Republicans and Nazis, firmly stating, “Republicans are not Nazis,” and also insisted that “Democrats aren’t evil.”

However, not all Democrats agree on the approach. Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy defended his rhetorical attacks on former President Trump, deeming warnings about threats to democracy to be both urgent and warranted, even as he acknowledged the reality of political violence.

In a similar vein, Texas Democrat Jasmine Crockett stated that likening Trump to Nazi Germany, such as calling him “aspiring Hitler” on the “Breakfast Club,” does not incite violence. She defended the use of such language as justified.
