Weather Alert: Tuesday afternoon-Wednesday afternoon for gusty winds

YUMA, Arizona (KYMA, KECY-TV) – A warm and sunny day on President’s Day, perfect conditions for being outdoors and enjoying yourself this afternoon and evening.

A strong weather system will arrive Tuesday night through Wednesday, bringing strong gusty winds, a higher chance of precipitation and cooler temperatures.

A gale warning has been issued for strong westerly winds of 30 to 40 mph with gusts of up to 65 to 75 mph expected in Imperial County from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday afternoon.

A wind advisory has been issued for Yuma County with strong southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts of 50 to 55 mph expected Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday afternoon.

Please be careful as dust and sand will rise up and make driving difficult.

The Imperial County APCD issued an Air Quality Warning for Tuesday afternoon and evening due to increased particulate matter from airborne dust.

Warmer-than-normal temperatures are expected by tomorrow, with highs near 80 degrees Celsius, followed by cooler temperatures by the middle of the week.

In addition to gusty winds and dusty conditions, a few days of rain are possible in the southwestern part of the desert later this week.
