Steve Marshall supports Trump’s strict crime policies: ‘Defunding the police is ineffective’

Alabama Attorney General Advocates for Increased Law Enforcement

The Attorney General of Alabama believes that a stronger law enforcement presence is crucial in tackling crime, particularly in major U.S. cities.

Marshall has been actively working to enhance Montgomery’s police force through the Metro Area Crime Control Unit (MACS).

This initiative aims to lower crime rates and boost public safety not just in Montgomery, but also in the surrounding neighborhoods.

He’s also expressed strong support for President Trump’s crime-fighting initiatives in Washington, D.C., and Memphis, Tennessee.

During a recent appearance on the “American Kitchen Table” podcast with Judy Barlow, Marshall discussed these pressing issues.

“We’ve come to understand that police departments tend to manage crises poorly,” he noted. “Many major cities are struggling partly because there aren’t enough officers able to effectively carry out their duties. On top of that, we have some prosecutors focusing more on social issues than law enforcement. Additional measures are necessary,” he added.

Marshall mentioned that the establishment of the MACS unit in Montgomery serves as a practical example of how to address crime.

“Montgomery is similar to what President Trump has been referring to lately—it’s the state capital, and when crime spikes there, it paints a negative picture of Alabama as a whole. We need to pool our resources to support local law enforcement,” he explained.

“We’ve already seen some encouraging outcomes,” he said.

According to Marshall, effective leadership means confronting difficult issues directly.

“It’s about holding violent offenders accountable, addressing the challenges at the southern border, and ensuring the safety of women and girls against policies that jeopardize their opportunities,” he emphasized. “These discussions aren’t just theoretical; they carry real implications. We can’t settle for weak leadership or half-hearted solutions. We need to confidently tackle these challenges and put families first—that’s my daily mission.”
