Scott Jennings Shares Emotional Encounter with Israeli Hostage’s Mother
Scott Jennings, a Republican strategist, became emotional on Thursday when discussing a mother of an Israeli hostage he met during a summer visit to Israel. He was praising former President Donald Trump for what he called the initial phase of a peace agreement between Israel and Hamas.
On Wednesday, an announcement on Truth Social revealed that Israel and Hamas had reached an agreement involving the withdrawal of Israeli forces to designated lines and the release of all hostages. Jennings mentioned on CNN’s “The Arena” that this deal could be one of the “most historic” achievements of Trump’s presidencies, expressing his satisfaction that the hostages might soon return.
Jennings reflected, “This will probably be remembered as the most historic moment of either of his two presidencies. Peace in the Middle East. When the hostages left, I mean, they think there were 20 alive. All day I was thinking about Yidit Ohel, who I met in Israel this summer. She is the mother of Aron Orel, who was taken hostage at the Nova Music Festival. He’s a jazz pianist… I will never forget meeting her and the shattered life of a mother waiting for her son to come home.”
He went on to add, “Yes, he’s going to come home, and Donald Trump is responsible for that… When they come out over the next few days, this is an unqualified diplomatic victory for the United States. While it is significant, it’s not just a personal victory for the president. A president who can provide strong and pragmatic leadership on the world stage reflects the strength of the United States.” He expressed that he was especially pleased for his friend Idit, longing to see her son return.
In a statement, Trump characterized the agreement as “historic and unprecedented,” also thanking the mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Türkiye who facilitated the talks.
During an appearance on Fox News’ “Hannity,” Trump indicated that hostages taken during the October 7, 2023 attack, whether dead or alive, were expected to be released by Monday.
Although Hamas has freed some hostages since Trump’s return, 48 remain in Gaza, with 26 of them confirmed deceased, according to reports.
