Gregg Jarrett Explains His Understanding of the Intentions of the Lawyers for the Former FBI Director

Comey’s Legal Troubles and Trump’s Response

On a recent episode of “Hannity,” Fox News legal analyst Greg Jarrett suggested that former FBI Director James Comey is attempting to shift attention away from his own legal troubles by implicating President Donald Trump. Jarrett’s comments came in light of the Department of Justice’s announcement that Comey faces charges for making false statements and obstructing a Congressional investigation.

While discussing these developments, guest host Charlie Hart inquired whether Jarrett believed anyone would ultimately face repercussions for Comey’s actions. Jarrett responded, advising Hart to consult Comey’s upcoming column, noting that Comey seemed to be “preening” and calling for a trial. He dismissed Comey’s statements as a mere facade, insisting that Comey and his legal team are more concerned about their own defense. “The last thing he wants is a trial,” Jarrett stated, referring to motions Comey’s lawyers plan to file to dismiss the charges, claiming they stem from political retaliation.

Jarrett expressed skepticism about Comey’s strategy, saying it appears aimed at placing Trump on trial to deflect from his own situation. He pointed out that proving any motives for the prosecution would be a significant challenge. “The idea that Trump is the villain while Comey is the innocent victim—a bit farcical given Comey’s history,” he remarked, alluding to Comey’s alleged misconduct during his tenure.

The charges against Comey follow earlier reports indicating the DOJ would pursue an indictment regarding alleged false statements made to Congress back in September 2020. The DOJ has clarified that Comey did not authorize anyone at the FBI to act as an anonymous source, a claim which has now been deemed false.

Comey has pleaded not guilty, with a trial date set for January 5, 2026. However, his legal team intends to file several motions to avoid going to trial altogether. Following the charges, Comey took to Instagram to reflect on the personal toll of opposing Trump, asserting that he would continue to stand firm against political pressure.

In another twist, a federal grand jury has also indicted New York Attorney General Letitia James on charges relating to bank fraud and making false statements.
