Toys Served As Cover For Trio Accused Of Smuggling Drugs Into Massachusetts

Three people have appeared in federal court in Boston for their involvement in a conspiracy to move dozens of controlled substances in boxes of children’s goods, according to federal officials.

Denise Guyette, 29, of Woonsocket, RI; Gerardo Garza, 47, of Yuma, Arizona; was charged with conspiracy to possess On Friday, February 17, the Massachusetts U.S. Attorney’s Office will report.

The trio were allegedly involved in a nationwide conspiracy to traffic numerous controlled substances from Arizona to Massachusetts and elsewhere, dubbed “Operation Raise Arizona.”

The operation involved shipping drugs across the country, hiding them in packages containing children’s items such as toy trucks, Halloween decorations, and Disney items. Guyette, along with Garza and Boddie, headed the drug lords involved in the operation, officials claim.

“All three of the people we removed from the streets have been accused of being prolific drug dealers who believed they could thrive in the drug trade and blind investigators.” said Special Agent Joseph R. Bonavolonta for the Boston Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. “Violence related to the illegal drug trade is a threat to our community, as our multiple Ghost Gun seizures demonstrate.”

Altogether, investigators seized over 16 pounds of methamphetamine, a 700-gram fentanyl pill, multiple ghost guns, and dozens of Social Security cards, driver’s licenses and credit cards.

All three arrested in early February could face up to 20 years in prison, up to three years, supervised release and fines of up to $1 million, officials said. .
