At 7:20 am on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, 83-year-old Eugene Paul Shoemaker of Valonia passed away suddenly at his home.
Eugene was born on February 7, 1940, in Valonia, to the late Louis & Lear (Otting) Shoemaker. On July 12, 1975, at Trinity his Lutheran church, he married Barbara his Ellen (Schneider) Shoemaker, with whom she survived in Valonia.
Eugene graduated from Valonia High School in 1958. He was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. A farmer and an accomplished cattleman since he was young, over 70 years he has fed over 30,000 cows. Eugene is a member of the National/Indiana/Jackson County Cattlemen’s Association, a member of the National/Indiana/Jackson County Agricultural Service, and has served on the FSA’s Board of Trustees and Lutheran Central School Board. He loved antique tractors, mostly Alice Chalmers.
Survivors include his wife, Barb. Sons: David Paul (Leah Berg) Donald Andrew (Jennifer Rededker) of Tucson, Arizona cobbler & Baronia. sister, Margaret Snyder of Salem; Grandchildren: Aston, Keirin, Brighton Shoemaker, Evan, Graham, Julia, Caroline Shoemaker. sister-in-law, Lois Shoemaker;
Eugene lost his parents. Siblings: Carl, Richard (Doris), Robert and James (Carolyn) Shoemaker. and her sister Norma Termail.
Eugene’s funeral will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Baronia on Sunday, February 26, 2023 at 2:00 pm and will be officiated by Reverend Jordan McKinley. Her friend will be able to visit with her family at the Johnson Funeral Home on Saturday, February 25, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to church services. increase.
