Indoor pool chlorine leak sends 4 people to hospital, including Maricopa firefighter

Maricopa, Arizona (3TV/CBS 5) — Several people, including firefighters, were taken to hospital Wednesday morning after a chlorine leak occurred at Maricopa’s indoor pool.

Around 10:00 am, the crew responded to reports of several people having trouble breathing. State Community Recreation CenterFirefighters immediately noticed a distinctive chlorine odor and called the Hazardous Materials Situation for additional help. His HAZMAT crew, including a team from the Chandler Fire Department, discovered a chlorine leak in the center’s indoor pool and are working to contain it.

A Maricopa Emergency Services spokeswoman said first responders treated 11 people at the scene and four were taken to hospital, including Maricopa firefighters. All were reportedly in stable condition with minor injuries. The crew is still working to contain the leak and an investigation is ongoing. Please check the latest information.
