PHOENIX – Snowflakes and ice fell on parts of Metro Phoenix early Thursday morning following the biggest storm in months.

“We certainly saw [graupel] In the Gilbert and Scottsdale areas, it turned to snow when it reached the Gold Canyon area,” said Sean Benedict, a meteorologist with the Phoenix Bureau. KTAR News 92.3 FM.
Most of the rain and snow shower had moved further east into the valley by about 6 a.m., Benedict said.
0.65 inches of rain remained, covering 99% of the time, he said. His single storm precipitation this winter was the heaviest since December 3rd.
of Maricopa County Flood Control District The map showed that part of Cave Creek reached 1.14 inches. Rain gauges near the McDowell Ranges recorded 1.10 inches, South Tempe 0.75 inches, and Glendale and Surprise 0.67.
Benedict said the valley recorded 2.06 inches of precipitation during the season, above the usual 1.81 inches for this time of year.
Across the state, multiple highways are closed due to winter conditions. More than 2 feet of snow in Flagstaff.

• 180 degrees north of Snowbowl (MP 236-248)
• US 191 (MP 188-253) both directions south of Alpine.
• SR 260 (MP 229-251) in both directions from Camp Verde east to SR 87;
• SR 89A (MP 375-398) in both directions between Sedona and Flagstaff
• SR 87 in both directions between Winslow and Bush Highway (MP 340-199)
• SR 64 (MP 244-261) near the eastern entrance to Grand Canyon National Park.
SR 366 (MP 131-137) near Mount Graham in both directions
