Pueblo, Flagstaff meet in state tournament again, this time for 4A championship

Pueblo and Flagstaff will meet for the third time in the state playoffs in the last seven years.

Flagstaff ended Pueblo’s 26-2 season in 2016-17 with an 84-65 win in the quarterfinals at Flagstaff.

The Warriors improved to a 30-2 record, beating Flagstaff 52-32 to qualify for the 2017-18 Championship at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix. Pueblo lost to Seton Catholic in his game for the title.

No. 4 seed Pueblo (23-7) will face No. 2 seed Flagstaff (25-6) at 6 p.m. in the 4A State Championship at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

Both schools have freshman security guards who are among the leading scorers — America, Casares Pueblo and Vera Barker at Flagstaff.
