FUSD, NAU and other Flagstaff schools closed today due to weather

11:20 am Update: Coconino Community College also announced it will close its Flagstaff campus on Thursday due to snow.

Universities are asking students to check their canvases to confirm communications with instructors, and faculty are asking students to contact them to “help keep them up to date on their coursework.”

“Faculty may also offer Zoom courses to help cover course material and may work with students on course attendance,” the announcement said.

CCC noted that some Zoom classes may be affected, but online courses and Page Center will continue as planned today.

10:30 am Update: Northern Arizona University has announced that all classes at its Flagstaff, Yavapai and Show Low campuses will be canceled today.

“Given the current road conditions and highway closures in and around Flagstaff, the campus will remain closed to allow City and County crews access to time and clear snow,” the statement said. said. “Travel is not recommended.”

The National Weather Service (NWS) Winter Storm Warning ended at 11:00 AM today, but snow accumulation continues to affect travel. The NWS hasn’t updated Flagstaff Airport’s total snowfall since 5pm yesterday, but it has cited other locations around Flagstaff as having over 20 inches of snow by this morning.

NAU’s closure will affect the Flagstaff, Yavapai and Show Low campuses. Students and employees in other locations, including remote employees and those designated as mandatory, should plan their regular schedules.

From Wednesday: Flagstaff schools rearranged their schedules this morning in response to winter weather, with some schools deciding to close completely for the day and others extending their planned delays.

The Flagstaff Unified School District (FUSD) has announced that schools will be closed today due to winter weather.

On Wednesday night, the school district was scheduled to delay the start by two hours, but earlier this morning decided to close schools for the day “after further evaluating winter weather and road conditions.”

This will be the district’s 12th closure this year and will include district-wide food service and pre-school and after-school activities.

Other K-12 schools that canceled classes today include Flagstaff Junior Academy, Northland Preparatory Academy and Montessori Charter School of Flagstaff. The Flagstaff Arts and Leadership Academy continues to offer remote classes.

NAU also made an announcement earlier this morning, extending the scheduled start from 10am to noon at its Flagstaff, Yavapai and Show Low campuses.

Coconino Community College will also delay its start to noon on its Flagstaff campus. The Page Center will be open as usual today.

In its announcement, CCC asked students to check Canvas for communications from instructors.

At NAU, on-campus dining is also scheduled later today. Hot spots open at 9am and most other stores are open on weekends. More information can be found on the NAUgo app.

“Faculty and staff will determine how lessons are structured and will interact directly with students,” the statement said.
