‘Background, experience will contribute to city leadership’ – The Durango Herald

I am running for Durango City Council to help our community keep moving forward. I believe that I will actively contribute to decision-making.

I’m Navajo/Diné. I grew up in a large Native American family in Lukachukai, Arizona, where I learned traditional family values. I am a long time Durango resident. I have a bachelor’s degree in business from Fort Lewis College. I have managed multiple housing development projects for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, as well as other federal, tribal and state agencies.

I have also lived in Washington, DC, where I worked for Capitol Hill on women’s rights and racial equality issues. Before her mother passed away, she took time off in between careers to care for her mother. It’s an important time for my family and I will always cherish the time I spend with my mother. participated as a volunteer.

My father instilled in me a love of the outdoors. I like skiing, fly fishing and hiking.

We are ready to tackle issues facing Durango including affordable housing, homelessness, infrastructure and parking. Passionate about preserving historic downtown Durango while improving safety. Residents and business owners should be meaningfully involved in decisions that affect their communities. If that doesn’t happen, it fosters a climate of distrust and hinders progress towards a shared vision of how our community should address issues and what the future should look like. The City must be an active partner in finding solutions for the homeless through open dialogue with counties and community organizations.

I love waking up and looking at the mountains. The beauty of Durango and the surrounding area is amazing. I love all the opportunities for outdoor recreation here. Our business, arts and university communities make Durango a vibrant and inspiring place. We must grow while maintaining the individuality of the city without surpassing the ability of the city to provide services.

We are also passionate about being role models for our youth and ensuring that our land, air and water are protected for future generations.
