Greenlee County – “The Clifton & Duncan Food Bank of First Southern Baptist Church exists to fight hunger and give hope in Greenlee County. We are committed to meeting the needs of the world. We value respect, compassion and integrity in all our interactions and activities.” This mission statement is about caring for people and meeting their needs. This is a summary of our activities as a food bank.
This need exists in rural Greenlee County. 20% of children face food insecurity and don’t know where their food comes from. Much of Greenlee County is a food desert, with little access to affordable, nutritious food. Over a quarter of her residents are designated working poor.
Duncan’s location expanded in 2020, just in time to serve the community through the pandemic. In 2022, Clifton will have his second site without a food bank. We serve approximately 250 needy families each month through his twice monthly rations and food pantries.
Here’s what our clients have to say about the impact we make: “There were some very difficult times, but with the help of the local food bank, I was able to get through.” “I rely on the food bank to eat.”
