Incarcerated man escapes from Yuma prison; law enforcement search underway

The prisoner was still missing Monday night after the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation, and Re-entry announced he had walked out of work at 9:20 a.m. in San Luis.

The department identified the escaped prisoner as a minimal detention worker, Jonathan Perryman.

In a statement, the agency said it had “notified all local law enforcement agencies, the U.S. Marshals Service, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.” The ADCRR investigation and arrest staff, including those from ASPC Yuma, are actively searching for Perryman.

The San Luis Police Department posted on its Facebook page Monday morning that it was “looking for an escaped prisoner from the Arizona Department of Corrections.”

A spokesperson for the Department of Public Security said the agency had issued an Attempt to Locate (ATL) on behalf of the Department of Corrections. ATL is a standard broadcast to all highway patrol units in the area.

“Perryman worked at a recreation center in San Luis and was last seen entering the restroom to wash off the paint on his hands by a worker checker and a private supervisor in the city of San Luis,” the ministry said in a statement. .

According to the Yuma Sheriff’s Office Twitter account, his last location as of 3:40 p.m. was near the 400 block on West Kano Street. was wearing trousers.

People are advised to leave the area while officers continue to search.

Perryman was jailed in November 2022 on charges related to weapons-related misconduct, according to the Department of Corrections. Perryman’s release date was set for his June 2026.

According to the Department of Corrections, Perryman has no history of violence or previous violent convictions.

Earlier in the day, the San Luis Police Department contacted the Gadsden School District and San Luis High School and said the school was on lockdown.
