The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for the Kaibab Plateau from 5 p.m. to midnight on Sunday. Showers and snow are expected through Tuesday and Wednesday.
Rain and snow are expected to begin Sunday night in western Coconino County and move east. The Kaibab Plateau is expected to see significant snowfall in excess of 7,000 feet Sunday afternoon through Monday.
“Maximum accumulation by the storm system this winter will occur on Tuesday and Wednesday,” the National Weather Service said on Twitter Sunday morning. We might see a lot of snow.”
A more widespread shower of rain and snow is expected to start Tuesday morning and continue through Wednesday, according to the Bureau of Meteorology. Strong winds are expected Monday through Thursday.
Snowfall amounts for Tuesday and Wednesday are still unknown, but areas above 6,000 feet may see significant snowfall.
Intensified flooding is a concern for additional midweek precipitation that could affect Arizona’s lower highlands.
Showers expected mid-week in the Valley
About half an inch of rain is expected in Phoenix and the surrounding area Wednesday and Thursday as the winter storm begins to move south.
Tuesday’s weather will be cloudy with a high of 68 degrees and showers expected after 11am. Showers will continue overnight, with a chance of thunderstorms after 11 PM and a minimum temperature of around 55 degrees.
40% chance of showers by 11 AM Wednesday. The rest of the day will be partly sunny with highs near 64 degrees. The evening will be similar, with minimum temperatures expected to hover around 47 degrees.
According to the Weather Service, “This rainfall may further increase the flow of local rivers and rivers.” Upstream snowmelt may increase flooding along the Salt River.

Rain expected midweek in southern Arizona
There is a small chance of light or light rain in Tucson and other parts of southern Arizona on Sunday and Monday. More wind and rain are expected on Tuesday and Wednesday.
There’s a 20% chance of precipitation in Tucson Tuesday after 11:00 a.m., with a forecast of mostly cloudy skies and highs near 72 degrees.
Wednesday in Tucson has a 70% chance of showers by 11am. Clouds will increase in the evening, and low temperatures can hover around 40 degrees.
Thursday, Friday and the weekend will be sunny and mostly clear.
