Flagstaff to Host Short-Term Rental License Open House

The City of Flagstaff is hosting an open house event to gather public feedback on the draft Short Term Rental (STR) Ordinance and License. The open house will be held on Monday, March 27, 2023 at 5:30 PM at City Hall (211 W. Aspen Ave) or online. Members of the public can participate in person or virtually for informational presentations and opportunities to provide feedback to city officials. In addition to creating a license to operate STR within the city limits of Flagstaff, the draft ordinance would include required emergency contact information, potential license fees, criteria for license approval and denial, and reasons for license suspension. It also contains other elements. Any future his STR-related ordinances passed by the Flagstaff City Council will only affect his STRs within the city limits of Flagstaff.

In July 2022, the Governor signed Senate Bill 1168. This allows any city or town in Arizona to require a license to operate his STR within its physical boundaries. The bill does not allow cities or towns to limit the number or density of her STRs in their communities. On October 11, 2022, the Flagstaff City Council directed city officials to begin the drafting process for his STR-related ordinances, which include the regulations permitted by Senate Bill 1168.
